How trove works

Trove is a shared collection of links organized by tags. Each link can have one or more tags (e.g. games, retro, tools).

Browsing by tag

Click any tag to see all links with that tag. The URL updates to reflect the filter — e.g. /games shows all links tagged "games".

Tag intersections

Combine tags by adding more path segments. For example:

The heading shows the active filters joined by (intersection symbol). Click any filter in the heading to navigate to just that tag.

Excluding tags

Prefix a tag with - to exclude it:

The tag menu

Hover over any tag on a link card to see a popup menu with two options:

When signed in, the sidebar tag menu includes a ✎ edit option. This opens a dialog where you can rename the tag and add or change its description. Descriptions appear as tooltips when hovering over sidebar tags.

The tag sidebar

On wider screens, a sidebar appears on the left showing all tags present in the currently displayed links, sorted by frequency. Click a sidebar tag to see the same menu options. Tags already in the active filter are hidden from the sidebar.

The search bar in the filter bar performs full-text search across link titles, tags, and notes. Results update as you type. Search is case-insensitive and works in combination with tag filters and time period filters.

Rating links

Each link card has a rating widget in the lower-right corner: ♠️ [number] ❤️

Links with a negative rating are hidden by default. The "N hidden" link in the link count lets you toggle their visibility. Ratings are stored locally in the browser.

Use the pseudo-tags _favs and _peeves in the tag sidebar to view positively or negatively rated links.

When signed in, a ✏️ icon appears in the upper-right corner of each card on hover. Click it to open an inline edit panel where you can change the title and edit tags (space-separated). A 🗑️ icon in the lower-right corner lets you delete a link. Changes are submitted to the backend and visible to all users.

User tags

Tags that start with a symbol followed by a username (e.g. @saul, !saul, +saul) are user tags. They represent per-user metadata on a link.

Adding links

Use the bookmarklet (see below) to add links to trove. The bookmarklet can be used both on external pages and on the trove site itself.

Bookmarklet

The header contains a "add to trove" link. Drag it to your browser's bookmark bar. When visiting any page (including trove itself), click the bookmarklet to open a floating panel that lets you add the current page to trove without leaving it.
